The Old Grainstore,
nr Stratford-upon-Avon
Barn Conversion
The Old Grainstore has been successfully transformed from an agricultural building into a residential property while preserving its rural character and setting. Originally constructed with a steel portal frame, precast concrete panels, and fibre cement boards, the building's design has been carefully re-ordered to maintain its agricultural essence and minimize the visual impact of the conversion.
The project also addressed the illogical curtilage from the previously approved Class Q application by extending the residential use to align with the natural planted enclosure. The design integrates slatted timber screens for solar shading, privacy, and reduced light spill, while the existing concrete panels were sustainably reused to enhance the building's exterior.
The conversion successfully balances modern residential functionality with the preservation of the site's agricultural heritage, creating a harmonious blend of rural charm and contemporary design.
