Mitchell’s Barn a live-work unit completed as part of an Enabling Development application at the heart of a tiny Cotswold village. The partially filled steel-frame structure draws from a modest pallet of materials and replicates a dutch barn that previously occupied the site.
The subtle tones of the pigmented green zinc roof curve above framed panels of rough-sawn larch, profiled to echo traditional hit-and-miss boarding. An open-plan living space positioned at first floor affords stunning views over the neighbouring stone barns to the open countryside beyond. The impressive barrel-vaulted volume extends through a full-width sliding/folding glazed screen onto a covered terrace. The terrace allows the end bay to be left open and for the structure to retain its incidental presence along the country lane.
