Bliss Farm, renovation and extension

Restoration / Extension

Loacted on the edge of the village, this late 19th century Victorian property sits within three acres of mature gardens with a range of adjacent stone barns.

Tyack architects were enlisted to sensitively reconfigure and extend the existing house to create a more functional and contemporary family home. The rationalised layout introduces more generous entrance and reception spaces, with the enlarged hall achieved by relocating the staircase and opening the adjacent sitting room. A new family kitchen and dining area is positioned to fully embrace the far reaching northern views and improve access to the garden.

The existing conservatory is replaced with a carefully designed new extension, echoing the gable form and detailing of the original house. A lower linking element, housing the relocated staircase, clearly distinguishes new fabric from old while ensuring the historic structure remains visually dominant. The extension also accommodates a new master bedroom suite with ensuite and dressing room.

Additionally, the adjacent stone barn is renovated, enabling its use for dry storage and occasional entertaining. Together, the proposals enhance the architectural coherence of the site while celebrating its rural setting and Victorian character.
